Experiencing God’s Renewal – Day 5

Welcome to the daily devotional we have. This is a learning process for me as I go along and I hope you can join me. I will pick a devotional on www.bible.com (feel free to go there and pick the same reading plan) and be posting the verse(s), devotional, and my own personal commentary. Feel free to leave your own commentary in the comments as I would love to read your guys thoughts. Also, I will have a video that relates to the devotional.
This devotional is titled “Experiencing God’s Renewal”. It is 5 days long. I use the ESV bible but feel free to use the version of your choosing.

Verses

Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

Devotional

God has a purpose for each one of us. Some of us know our purpose while others are still in the process of uncovering it. When we know our purpose, God uses it to enable us to renew His kingdom, but in order to renew His kingdom; we must continually renew our purpose and ourselves. Don’t let God’s purpose for your life become stale and feel old to you. Allow God to renew His purpose in such a way that it feels as fresh as the day you first uncovered it. Ask Him to expand your purpose and show you specifically the ways you can contribute to renewing His kingdom in the same way He has renewed your life and purpose.

Commentary

God revealed to me my purpose back in January of 2012. Not everyone hears/asks what their purpose is. I didn’t even ask, God kind of just made it obvious. It was a big duh! I always enjoyed making videos and God has called me to make films. It may have been God’s plan for me to join the Navy first or maybe it was me just doing what I want and God is using it to His advantage. Touche God. I see what you did there. Knowing His purpose for my life has given me a new outlook on life. Prior to it I had kind of accepted doing 20 years in the Navy and then retiring. Aka doing nothing worthwhile for the Kingdom. Sure being a light to others is great, but there is nothing like bigger and better things.

I totally hear you Brian Russell, but remember, Jonah didn’t want what God wanted for him. And God wanted Jonah to be an example. I cannot judge your circumstances, I am not God. But we all have to remember that alot of the time it is not what we want that is our calling in life.

It can be so amalgamous though. I think so many times I get caught up thinking about what God’s plan for my life is. I think He really just wants us to live. He’s given us passions and such, but so many times I wonder if I’m doing the right thing. If I’m following God’s will for my life as if he would give me a ton of things I love to do… and ask me to do something else.
