Find Purpose In Your Work – Day 3

Hello and welcome! This is the Geeks Under Grace daily devotional where we dive into the Bible everyday. We take devotionals from bible.com and read the verses, devotional, and give our own commentary. Sometimes we will have multiple writers, but most of the time it will be just me. I hope you enjoy and comment with your own commentary.
This devotional is titled “Find Purpose In Your Work”. It is only 3 days long. I use the ESV bible but feel free to use the version of your choosing.

Verses

Genesis 12:1
“Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.”
1 Corinthians 9:12
“If others share this rightful claim on you, do not we even more?
Nevertheless, we have not made use of this right, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ.”
James 1:17
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”

Devotional

God’s plans are big. Only He can equip us to accomplish His purpose. He gives both the knowledge and the gifts that we need. God told Abraham of His plan to bless all peoples on earth through him, and God gave Abraham the gift of a son, Isaac, to help fulfill that promise.
We’ve prayed to listen for how God has gifted you and how He is strengthening you for His purpose. Now, let us join in Paul’s prayer for the early church. Paul asked God to fill people in the church with the knowledge of His will through wisdom and understanding from the Spirit.
God wants to fill you with a knowledge of His will through the Spirit. Take a moment now to listen for God’s future plans in your life. Through this prayer, you will envision with God where he wants you to be next year and the lives He will touch through you.

Commentary

What does God have planned for you? Is it a new job? Is it reaching out to the fellow co-workers you already have? No matter what it is, it is important to obey the Lord. You will find that following Him and doing as He asks is a lot more rewarding and fulfilling than doing your own thing. Tomorrow we are going to tackle an even bigger subject. God’s purpose for your life.
