Welcome to the daily devotional we have. This is a learning process for me as I go along and I hope you can join me. I will pick a devotional on www.bible.com (feel free to go there and pick the same reading plan) and be posting the verse(s), devotional, and my own personal commentary. Feel free to leave your own commentary in the comments as I would love to read your guys thoughts. Also, I will have music that may or may not apply to the devotional.
This devotional is titled “Hawk Nelson – The Overflow Devo”. It is 7 days long. I use the ESV bible but feel free to use the version of your choosing.
“1 Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered.
2 Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity,
and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
3 For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long.
4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;
my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer.
5 I acknowledged my sin to you,
and I did not cover my iniquity;
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”
and you forgave the iniquity of my sin.
6 Therefore let everyone who is godly
offer prayer to you at a time when you may be found;
surely in the rush of great waters,
they shall not reach him.
7 You are a hiding place for me;
you preserve me from trouble;
you surround me with shouts of deliverance.
8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will counsel you with my eye upon you.
9 Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding,
which must be curbed with bit and bridle,
or it will not stay near you.
10 Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the Lord.
11 Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous,
and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!”
First, if you’ve made it this far with us, we just want to thank you for sticking around. We thought we’d end on a fun note. The track ‘We’re Alright’ is kind of a mini anthem for believers of our generation. It’s very easy for Christians to feel painted into a corner and feel a little different than other people because of what we believe. But that doesn’t mean we can’t be comfortable in our own skin and have a good time!
Today’s media and the like often seem to lay out an unrealistic premise for us to live our lives by. A certain weight, a specific look, brand new clothes, but the truth is, sometimes these expectations don’t work for us; they may not be who God intended us to be. Okay, that’s cool, but how do we know who God intended us to be? “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.”
We don’t have to live up to the expectations of the whole world; we just have to live for our Father in Heaven…
…So how does it feel to know you’re alright?
I know that there are days where despite me knowing God forgives and is bigger than my struggles, I still feel guilty and wasting my life. Every day I want to do something for Him and to advance the Kingdom. To sit on my butt all day and do nothing really sounds like a waste to me. Which is strange since that used to be all I wanted to do. This daily devotional series was one of the steps I took to make sure I am doing something daily for Him and to help me mature as a Christian.
