How To Experience God Everyday

*This video and song is perfect for prayer and entering into His presence*

I feel there’s a need for a post on this. I’ve seen many Christians struggle with one of the most important aspects of the Christian life, and that is experiencing God’s presence.

All throughout the Bible, every important person in that Holy Book came into contact one way or another with His glory: Moses, King David, Joseph, the Apostles, Noah or anyone else. They were  all impacted by an encounter that marked their lives forever. Those experiences are still available for the believer today, we just need to know how to enter into His courts and spend time there.

Now, I’m not talking something mystical like meditation. Though as Christians we can and should meditate on His word and even spend quiet time reflecting. It’s much easier than you expect. When I first started following God and accepted Christ in my heart and life, I had no idea what true worship was all about. If you were to ask me about His presence and power or feeling the Holy Spirit in my daily life, I wouldn’t have an answer. I had never known what that meant.

To make a long story short, I went from a legalistic church to one that flows in the supernatural power of God every day. I’ve seen healings, demons come out of people, arches grow on flat feet, the blind see, the lame walk and so much more. I realized that the key to the power of God is only through spending time in His presence, and the only way to do that is to read the Bible and pray.

When I am talking about prayer, I am not talking about a pre-written one. Those are fine, but I am talking about getting somewhere where nobody can bother you. Get some powerful worship music (or anointed soaking/instrumental music, I will list some artists below), and get real with God. You need to become sensitive to His voice so you know when He is guiding you as you spend time throughout the day.

DesperateImageGod’s Quiet Voice

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt God told you to speak to someone about Him, or maybe to help someone, or to go somewhere and you weren’t sure why? How do you know it’s God and not just your own thoughts?

That’s why you need to spend time with Him. He can be leading you to open a business, start a career, find your true love, and you wouldn’t know it was God even if He yelled it out. His voice is still, small and quiet, not loud!

Can He be loud? Of course, He’s God, He does whatever He wants but usually it’s a guiding whisper that you will miss if you don’t hear it.

There’s no way around it. If you want to experience God’s presence on a daily basis, you need to spend time praying and seeking His will for your life. How do you do that? Let me break it down in some practical steps:

  • You need to get away from distractions like your phone, TV, video games, or laptop. Even if someone requires your attention, you need to tell them you are going to pray and need some time alone. Don’t let other people get between you and your time with God. Don’t be mean about it, but help them understand you need to do this.
  • Spend time every day listening to what He wants you to do. If your not sure, keep praying daily on that particular subject. Is it a relationship your looking for? What career should you study? How to spend your money? Direction in other areas of your life? You need His presence to do these things, and the only way is to be broken and open before Him. Admit your weaknesses, tell Him you need His strength. Die to yourself and your sinful nature, and don’t be afraid to say that you need God.
  • Listen to powerful worship music. I’ve mentioned this in past articles, but it’s so important to reflect and let these songs wash over your spirit while you’re in prayer. Check out Bethel Music, Grace Williams, Hillsong United, Jesus Culture, Bryan and Katie Torwalt, Will Reagan, and others.

Experiencing Him By FaithGloryimage

Many people seek the supernatural through dark arts. Whether it’s the occult, witchcraft, wicca, voodoo, tarot cards, astrology and more, people deep down want to understand the invisible realm all around us.

You have two ways to experience the spiritual, through the Devil or through God. Both are legitimate, but one will lead you to Hell (Guess which one!). I’m not going to go into detail of the power of the Devil and those that work through his power (If you’re interested, let me know, and I will share the limited knowledge I have on the subject and how to overcome Satan’s agenda), but I will say that to encounter God you need faith.

I’m sure you may have heard of faith, but it’s actually a substance! It’s something you can increase in, just like your muscles grow in the gym the more you work out there. If you want to experience God deeper, you need to try things you’ve never done before.

For example, maybe you’re not comfortable lifting your hands up in prayer? Or maybe you’re not used to praying with worship music? Does getting on the floor during prayer make you feel weird? Whatever it is, God will lead you to be uncomfortable when you want to seek Him at another level. You cannot do the same thing and expect the same results!

Until you are hungry and desperate enough to know God and experience His presence daily, you will never be able to.15327569270_1c94427dbb_b

Whenever you see photos or videos of people in other countries (not the USA) just going all out in worship and you wonder why you don’t see that here in America, it’s because of one thing: desperation.

They don’t have a lot of money, connections, rich inheritances, families that make 50K a year in salary or all of that. There are no other options but God. He needs to do something or they are in quite a pickle. Many people that minister in foreign countries come back saying things like, “Wow, they are so hungry for God in that country! Why isn’t America seeking God that way?”

It’s simple. We have too many options, God is set aside as another choice instead of the only way.

A close friend of mine from the country of Gabon, Africa lived here in Miami for some years but moved back to his country. He once told me (I’m paraphrasing), “Mike, in Africa, it’s either Jesus shows up or we have no other options. There’s no money or resources like in the States, it’s Jesus or we die.”

Forget What People Think

Stop caring about how others are going to look at you. You need to get on fire and seek God with all you are. Get to the point where you just need Him like you need water. Whether you’re in a movie and you sense His presence for you to leave because of certain scenes (I’ve done it), or maybe He is telling you to speak a positive word to someone, do it. Is tthe Holy Spirit convicting you right now that you haven’t been desiring God’s will more than your own? Have you been lacking in prayer and passion for His presence?

You know what you have to do. Seek Him today, and you will experience Him like never before!

What encounters have you had with God’s presence? Have you ever had a vision, dream, or prophetic word that has impacted your life through time with our Heavenly Father? Did you need further clarification on a point I spoke about? Please let me know any questions below, I will be sure to answer them the best I can!
Thanks and God bless.

Hi there Logan, thanks for the comment! I happened to be checking my email and your comment came in. I’m glad I still get emails from posts, even though it was years ago! I can say, I wanted to re-read what I wrote as yes, it’s been quite a long time.

I still stand by most of what I said, though I would say I changed my thoughts on a few things. Don’t compare yourself to others in regards to worship, or how you get close to Christ. Read your bible, pray, go to church, and don’t worry about experiences. Though this goes contrary to the title of the post, having an “experience” is not important. If God wants to speak to you, He will, through the Holy Spirit who will guide you.

The most important thing is not about an experience, seeing others get “fired up”, or whatever. Do you know Christ as your savior? Did you accept His forgiveness for your sins, you turned from your sinful ways (whatever they may be) and are following His word daily? Picking up your cross? It’s not easy, it’s hard, but He is with us to do it. We can’t do anything that God asks us without His help.

If you feel uncomfortable, that’s OK! Everyone expresses themselves differently. As long as we are seeking Him, whether we raise our hands high, jump, yell, pray quietly, whatever it is, as long as it’s biblical and not something weird (trust me, there’s lots of weird in some churches) then just seek Him. There’s no one perfect formula. Seek Him with all your heart, mind and soul.

Sorry for posting this 6 years late 😅. This, due to past church experiences along with things I’ve read/seen online, terrifies me. I have been a Christian for about 5 years, and I am still afraid to get close to God. This may be due fear of losing control of my mind. I believe in the Gospel and have seen it’s results in my life, but this level of intimacy seems to be scary. Seeing people getting “fired up” in worship makes me want to run out the door. It is very overstimulating. Am I the only one who feels this way? Thank you all.

I have no clue what God’s will is for my life. I guess I’ll just keep writing articles for now.

    • Michael M. on December 6, 2014 at 1:27 pm

Writing articles is part of His will because your passionate about it.

God will for your life is not like man’s will. He created us all with a purpose, with certain talents and passions in life. Whether it’s to write, be a police officer, teacher, business person, artist, singer, counselor etc. You have something that you are meant to accomplish in life. You need to spend time in prayer and seeking His face, then start looking at your life and what you enjoy doing. It isn’t a 5 second thing.

Look at what your good at, your strengths, what do you enjoy doing and seeing yourself doing that. It takes a lot of reflection, but start doing it day by day and it will come together for sure.

A couple months ago I had a true encounter with God. Since around the age of fourteen (I’m eighteen now) I have dealt with depression and despite believing that I had a strong relationship with God was living as though I was the one with all the answers. Then, one day, I (being a type one diabetic) went into Diabetic Ketoacidosis. In a haze of pain, nausea, and even less pleasant things I began to hear two voices in my head. While I don’t think that I could even at that moment understand what they were saying, I could understand the messages that they were whispering. One was telling me that amidst the pain, that I could find solace in my own strength and logic. The other was… hard to explain, it called me to something greater. It felt, clean, like freshly washed sheets on a well made bed. (To drive home the level of my geekiness I remember thinking through the pain and voices “I am Zuko, and this is the great war of my heart.” and even gave the voices faces of great dragons.) I knew what was happening, and I knew what I had to do. Over the next few days (spent in the OHSU ICU) I took a good hard look at myself, listening carefully for what God was calling me to (and watching ‘Murder She Wrote’). Ever since then, God’s been working in my life in ways I never even dreamed of before, I haven’t felt even a shred of my past depression, and I’ve been helping friends that have lost their way come back to Him. I can’t begin to describe how incredible the couple months since my encounter have been, and this article has given me some great information on how to proceed even further in my spiritual journey.

Thanks Noah for sharing! That’s an interesting story you have there, read the whole thing. I know that God is going to continue to speak to you. He has a plan for your life, and He’s there for you. Seek Him and you’ll find Him. Read His word, pray, and just be desperate to experience Him more.

Glad to know your helping out others. God takes us out of our junk to help others out of their junk. God bless ya man.
