Welcome to the daily devotional we have. This is a learning process for me as I go along and I hope you can join me. I will pick a devotional on www.bible.com (feel free to go there and pick the same reading plan) and be posting the verse(s), devotional, and my own personal commentary. Feel free to leave your own commentary in the comments as I would love to read your guys thoughts. Also, I will have a video that relates to the devotional.
This devotional is titled “How To Love A Friend”. It is 4 days long. I use the ESV bible but feel free to use the version of your choosing.
“No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”
TALKING TO GOD
Name one good friend and tell God something you love about that person. Then thank God for him or her.
Tape a large sheet of paper to the wall. Write as many words as you can to describe good friends (great, super, fantastic).
Jesus had 12 disciples who were His friends. You can become a friend of Jesus, too. When you follow and obey Jesus just as His disciples did, Jesus calls you His friend. What kind of friend is Jesus? In John 15:13, Jesus says, “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” That’s what Jesus did for His disciples and for you.
TALKING TO EACH OTHER
– How do the words on your sheet of paper (from Diving In) also relate to Jesus?
– What does it mean when Jesus calls you His friend?
– How is Jesus different from our other friends?
I may be off topic here but Jesus had 12 disciples and all were His friends. Yet one of His friends stabs Him in the back which of course led to Jesus being hung on the cross. I know many of us, including me, have been stabbed in the back by a friend before. We cannot let that prohibit us from meeting new friends trusting them. There are a lot of idiots in the world and a lot of good people as well. I have had to learn to move on from being stabbed in the back and I hope you can as well.
