When Will God Judge? – Caris Ministries

Editors Note – Caris Ministries has graciously allowed us to share some of their articles on our site. Check them out in the links at the bottom for more.
In the past I’ve written about the fact that today is not the day of God’s judgment, but of grace. I illustrated some key differences between God’s message in the old and new covenants [link] and shown that the message of Christ through our lives should be one of reconciliation, not of judgement [link]. I’ve also stated that our position on judgment will influence our actions to either align us as co-workers with satan or co-laborers with Christ [link]. So, if today is not the day of God’s judgment, then when will He judge?

A Future Day For Judgment

Only God knows the specific day when He will judge the world, but there is a day of judgment still to come. It’s important to note that throughout the Bible it is consistently referred to as a being in the future, and it is always called a day (Mat. 10:15; 11:22; 11:24; 12:36; Rom. 2:5; 2Pe. 2:9; 3:7; 1Jo. 4:17; Jud. 1:6).
“The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has fixed a day on which he will judgethe world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.” Act. 7:30-31 ESV
“If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day.” Joh. 12:47-48 ESV
The Bible also says that Jesus “is ready to judge” (1Pe. 4:5) and that “the Judge is standing at the door” (Jam. 5:9). We see the martyrs in Revelation asking, “how long before you judge?” (Rev. 6:10).

A Season Of Grace

Clearly, there is a specific day coming in which God will judge. The good news is that right now we are still in a season where God is reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them (2Co. 5:18-21). It’s a season of grace! If we are in a season of grace, then let’s cooperate with God by living with a heart of grace toward our world.
