Review: The Wolf Among Us Episode 5: Cry Wolf

Content Warning: Offensive Language.  Death.  Nudity (poster on a wall).

Story: point-blankIt is unbelievably hard to tell you about this game without spoiling it for anyone who has not played it yet.  You play as Bigby Wolf.  He is the sheriff of Fabletown, a place in New York were all the fables (who escaped the capture of their home worlds) live.  As Bigby, you must unravel the mystery of the murders of two fables and the overarching plot to take over Fabletown. The story is very good and I do not want to spoil it for anyone who wants to play the games.  These games are a prequel to the graphic novel series it is based on. I cannot wait to see where they take this story.

Gameplay: Cry Wolf follows the same gameplay as the previous episodes.  They are point and click adventures.  The notable lack in this episode is the detective work of the last four episodes.  You don’t do any of that in this episode.  You don’t get a chance to figure things out for yourself.  It is a more directed story.  The only deviations to the story happen during the choosing of text and how well you perform the quick time events. In a way, I do miss the detective work.  But this episode was so full of action and story that I feel like it was okay to miss out on that.  In one memorable scene you do get to see Bigby’s true form and get to fight out the rest of the scene that way.

Presentation: car I think I have said it for each of the episodes in The Wolf Among Us.  This game has got this presentation down.  The color pallet, the characters design, the voice work.  It is all awesome.  Telltale has done an amazing job making the Fables comics into a game and making it look just like the comic.

Summary: Cry Wolf builds on and exceeds the rest of the previous episodes of The Wolf Among Us.  Telltale has made this into a great episodic game.  With season one behind me, it is going to be tough to wait for season 2.  I can’t wait to see where they take this series in the future.

The Bottom Line

Cry Wolf builds on and exceeds the rest of the previous episodes of The Wolf Among Us. Telltale has made this into a great episodic game. With season one behind me, it is going to be tough to wait for season 2. I can't wait to see where they take this series in the future.
