In about a year and some change, the Assassins Creed movie will release to theaters through director Justin Kurzel (Macbeth). The movie will feature Michael Fassbender (Xmen: Days of Future Past) and Marion Cotillard (Dark Knight Rises) as its top stars. What do we expect from this video game to movie conversion? Well, for one thing, it will follow the continuity of the games. This is what the official Assassins Creed Twitter account said:
We share the same universe. Elements in the film have consequences as in our games, comics, and books -Aymar https://twitter.com/TheCliffhangers/status/636937272567267328 …
How will that play out? No one knows yet. With Assassins Creed being in so many time periods and locations from Israel to the Italian Renaissance, it will be hard to keep track of how Ubisoft incorporates the saga of the Templars. Hopefully the movie removes the bad taste of needless spin-offs, half-baked sequels that glitched, and the fact that I could never get my Assassin to properly grip a stupid ledge. Seriously, I am holding R1, why aren’t you grabbing the ledge? Nuts to this, I am playing Prince of Persia.
I digress. I think most fans will be delighted to see the excellent period costumes, assassins decked out with hidden blades in the sleeve and the fact that your character makes an eagle sound whenever he jumps into hay. Frankly, I am surprised that a female will star in the movie, since Ubisoft confessed that they are so hard to design. Perhaps they put a beard on Marion to simplify her physique.
In December of 2016 we will see if this movie is an epic cosplayers dream or a quick ride to Walmart’s $8 bin.
