Review: Flyleaf: Remember to Live EP

Flyleaf. If you’re into Christian Rock/Metal, you’ve probably heard that name before. If not, here’s your chance. Though the original lead vocalist Lacey Sturm has been replaced, the albums prior to her replacement (collectively referred to as “Classic Flyleaf”) still hold on to their fame. Classic Flyleaf released three full albums with six extended plays (EP’s) released along with them. I’d like to review the EP released in 2010 Remember to Live.

The EP includes Justice and Mercy [Violent Love Version], Okay, Amy Says, Dear My Closest Friend, Light in Your Eyes, Believe in Dreams, and Arise [Ben Moody Mix].

The lyrics of these songs are great and so is the sound. With lyrics like “We’ll unify our thoughts, God will hear and save, God will hear and save us” and “There’s a light in your eyes, and it tells me that God is on our side”, you’ll definitely like the message these tracks give. Justice and Mercy [Violent Love Version] is basically a really good acoustic version, but with some non-acoustic sounds here and there. Arise [Ben Moody Mix] is something like never before. It even moves around some of the lyrics from the original song. The sound may seem almost shocking at first (compared to what Flyleaf has previously released) but you should like the sound (and the message). I think Okay is the best one. It’s about not being satisfied with “okay”, and the lyrics are amazing not only in their message but in the fact that they are almost universal.  It can mean not being satisfied being an “okay” Christian, or with an “okay” lifestyle, environment, or anything. The important part is that it all leads to “We’ll unify our thoughts, God will hear and save”. Amy Says is similar in message to Skillet’s The Last Night or Imperfections. Dear My Closest Friend is about wanting to return to God.  Light in Your Eyes is about getting hurt in search for love, but seeing that God is on our side. Believe in Dreams is another that its lyrics can be used in many ways. My interpretation is believing that you can get to heaven or be a better Christian, as long as you believe. Arise [Ben Moody Mix] is obviously a remix of Arise from Momento Mori and, as I previously stated, it is very different from the other Flyleaf Songs.

One thing that I like is something you obviously see when you open the case:

An illustration of the one this album is about-Jesus Christ.

This is definitely an EP worth getting. Give it a shot and you won’t be sorry!

The Bottom Line

A great album with tracks that may just top your list.

I love Flyleaf, and the new lineup sounds great.

But, I really wasn’t a fan of remember to live…
Momento Mori and new horizons were the best imo…

    But that’s an opinion.

It was a little different than the others. But I am fine with Skillet’s change from “Awake” to “Rise” . I guess I just like the bands no matter what! (except the drastic current change in Flyleaf)

The last album I listened to was Memento Mori. Was never a huge Flyleaf fan but I liked it more than the debut album.

I’m in the same boat. I love Momento Mori, Flyleaf (first one), and New Horizons. Their new stuff is good too, but this one…meh. Not for me. Stick to the hard stuff, don’t get all acoustic on me.
