Hello and welcome to another artist spotlight. We’ll only be interviewing the best of the best in order to help you add the greatest new music to your playlists. You may have heard of Royal Tailor. However, if you haven’t… You have been missing out! Royal Tailor has already released two albums and their song “Ready, Set, Go” is already a smash hit (see the video above). I asked them to conduct an interview and they graciously agreed. In fact, they provided the donuts and coffee. I felt a little embarrassed not having thought of that myself, but I quickly got down to business with the tough questions.
Geeks Under Grace: Who exactly (band members) is in Royal Tailor?
Royal Tailor: Tauren Wells (Lead Vocals)
Blake Hubbard (Bass)
D.J. Cox (Guitar)
Jarrod Ingram (Drums)
GUG: Why did you pick Royal Tailor as your group name?
RT: We wanted to be called something that defined us and meant something that our fans could be proud of.
GUG: How did you all meet and become Royal Tailor?
RT: The Band formed at college and there came a time when we needed a drummer and Blake and Jarrod grew up together. And it just so happened that Jarrod was a killer drummer and he joined up in 2009 and we’ve been going strong ever since.
GUG: What inspired you guys to play the type of Christian music that you perform? It seems like a whole new sound to me.
RT: We all come from very interesting musical backgrounds. Anywhere from black gospel to bluegrass. So when we get together to write songs those influences clash in such a way that it creates our sound.
GUG: Who writes the lyrics for the group? Also do you ever change a song’s lyrics in live sets?
RT: Tauren is our main lyricist. We have never changed them. Just forgotten them occasionally but that’s a rare occasion.
GUG: I just recently saw the music video for “Ready Set Go” and I noticed there was dancing and parkour. Were these choreographed or were they made up on the go?
RT: The parkour was totally all improv on the spot. But the dancing was choreographed by Chase Benz, which was surreal in itself.
GUG: Will you ever record remixed versions of your music?
RT: Maybe…Or possibly have another artist remix it.
GUG: Okay, now for the not-so-band-related questions. Our site is for geeks and includes various things such as gaming, movies, TV, anime, etc, etc. Is there any shameless nerdy things you do that no one or maybe everyone knows about?
RT: We shamelessly play corn hole like it’s a second job!
GUG: If you had to pick one video game, one movie, and one TV show to be stuck with for the rest of your life, what would they be and why?
RT: Lord of the Rings because it’s extremely long lasting!
GUG: Anything you would like to share, from new merchandise to upcoming shows/tours or songs/albums?
RT: Our song, “Making Me New” is about to hit the radio! August we are on the Air1 Positive Hits tour! And a Fall tour with Tenth Ave North to finish out the year!
