WWE Wrestlemania 31 Predictions

Welcome to the Geeks Under Grace predictions of WWE’s Wrestlemania 31!

This year’s PPV & WWE Network exclusive WrestleMania is a must-see extravaganza! Sting, The Undertaker, John Cena, Brock Lesnar, Daniel Bryan and Triple H will all be featured on this epic night of wrestling entertainment. Wrestlemania 31 takes place in Santa Clara, California at Levi’s Stadium. Last month Roman Reigns was the only WWE Superstar featured on the official WWE promotional poster for Fastlane, but for Wrestlemania’s poster, Reigns stands just to the right of the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar. Roman Reigns is our 2015 Royal Rumble winner and will compete at Wrestlemania to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Sting will compete for the first time in a WWE ring, and The Undertaker will make yet another return to the squared circle. I am joined in this predictions article by Steve Schoen and Mike Pyatt.

Will we see the dawn of a new era with a new WWE World Heavyweight Champion crowned? Or will Brock Lesnar prove to be truly unstoppable? Prepare yourself for the upcoming WrestleMania 31!

WWE Tag Team Champions Tyson Kidd & Cesaro vs. The New Day vs. Los Matadores vs. The Usos (Fatal 4-Way)

WWE Tag Team Champions Tyson Kidd & Cesaro vs. The New Day vs. Los Matadores vs. The Usos (Fatal 4-Way)

Steve S.

I’ve been waiting for the tag division to undergo a renaissance for a number of years. Every time I think we’re about to see a revitalization, they go and do stuff like breaking up Goldust and Stardust. It’s nice to see tag teams that are built and booked as a single unit, instead of random superstars thrown together to work a three-month program. It’s good to see the tag titles being contested by whole unit teams. Tyson Kidd and Cesaro may want to develop a name for their unit in time, but winning the tag belts is a good start. I predict they will retain the titles here, to assert their position as one of the top tag teams, even in a time when the tag division is rather weak.

Winners – Tyson Kidd & Cesaro

Mike P.

For some odd reason, I could see The New Day winning the titles. Maybe it’s the affirmative action in me talking. Or maybe it’s because I have no idea what they want to do in this match. I guess that’s a good thing. I do like surprises… Oh who am I kidding, we all know who’s going to win this match. They’re the John Cena of the tag team division.

Winners – The Usos

Steven K.

I believe the Usos will recapture the WWE World Tag Team Championships here. Having Jimmy & Jey Uso (crowd favorites) as champions again will be sure to make the audience there in California happy. The Usos are a fantastic tag team but they desperately need a strong, lengthy program with another formidable opponent.

Winners – The Usos

André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

2nd Annual Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal

Steve S.

The primary event I’m waiting on during this match is the blowoff between Miz and Mizdow. I see Miz making Mizdow do his dirty work for much of the match, and eventually turn on Mizdow and eliminate him. Then Mizdow will come back to screw Miz and officially end their “partnership.” Additionally, I predict Ryback will win the match to receive a renewed push.

Winner – Ryback

Mike P.

There are some heavy hitters in this match, but there is only one that is standing out for me. That’s Mizdow. He’s getting so much reaction right now. I don’t think the WWE can ignore that. My only thing is that, no matter who wins this, I hope they build them better than last year’s winner. Don’t remember who won last year? Exactly.

Winner – Damien Mizdow

Steven K.

With Jack Swagger, Erick Rowan and Ryback in this years Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal there is no way to know for certain who will win this match. However I pick Curtis Axel to win this battle royal. Curtis Axel was just involved in a altercation with Hulk Hogan and Snoop Dogg this last Monday night. Axel is also a third generation WWE superstar making it so fitting that he would leave Wrestlemania the winner of the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

Winner – Curtis Axel

AJ Lee & Paige vs. The Bella Twins

AJ Lee & Paige vs. The Bella Twins

Steve S.

Seeing this as the only Diva’s presence on the card makes me wonder what is happening the in the Diva’s locker room. Nikki and Brie’s revelation that they intend not to renew their contracts on the season finale of Total Divas makes it seem like the Diva’s Title will be leaving Nikki’s waist very soon. However, this is the WWE, and anything can happen. For all we know, it could have been a work. That being said, I believe AJ and Paige will go over here, and keep both of their names in the title picture.

Winners – AJ Lee & Paige

Mike P.

Ugh, another poor booking of the divas. Seriously, who cares about this? And this isn’t a shot at the women. They work hard man, and I think it’s a mockery—no, it’s a travesty that they aren’t getting better storylines to work with. Really, a tag team match at the biggest show and the title isn’t involved? Come on man! Let’s just hope that they put on a good match anyway.

Winners – AJ Lee & Paige

Steven K.

AJ Lee vs. Paige, Emma vs. Paige, Natalya vs. AJ Lee or Paige or Charlotte… All matches I would rather see than AJ Lee & Paige vs. The Bella Twins.

Losers – The Fans

Intercontinental Championship Ladder Match

Intercontinental Champion Bad News Barrett vs. Daniel Bryan vs. Stardust vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Luke Harper vs. Dean Ambrose vs. RTruth

Steve S.

I really don’t know what to say about this one. The build-up to this match has been one of the most disjointed storylines I’ve ever witnessed. Several of this match’s participants seem out-of-place. (I’ll let you decide which ones.) Anyway, on to the match. Dean Ambrose’s push has been good for him, but he’s running into the awkward wall of Daniel Bryan who, by all accounts, should still be working on top but isn’t. I find it unlikely that Daniel Bryan would be put into I/C title contention just to lose. Much as I would like Ambrose to win, I predict Daniel Bryan will win. This will springboard him back into the world title picture, and perhaps even renew his feud with Roman Reigns to set up a champion vs. champion match at SummerSlam.

Winner – Daniel Bryan

Mike P.

Who doesn’t love a game of chase? This lead up to the Intercontinental title match has reminded me of the old 24/7 hardcore belt from back in the attitude era. That title just kept switching hands man. R-Truth was the star of this program, he played his role well. I liked that he even got a pinfall on the go home show. He will not win the title however.

I think this match comes down to Ziggler and Bryan. I think whoever doesn’t win, turns heel the next night on RAW to set up a feud that could go on until SummerSlam. For my money, I think Bryan gets the win in this match.

Winner – Daniel Bryan

Steven K.

Daniel Bryan won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at last year’s WrestleMania, competing and beating Triple H, Batista, and Randy Orton all on the same night. This year Bryan will compete in a ladder match to win the Intercontinental Championship and I think Daniel Bryan needs to fire his booking agent. All of the men competing in this match are talented, hardworking performers. I’d like to see Dolph Ziggler win this match, as I believe he really compliments the IC title. He has an in-ring working style similar to that of a young Shawn Michaels.

Winner – Dolph Ziggler

Randy Orton vs. Seth Rollins

Randy Orton vs. Seth Rollins

Randy Orton vs. Seth Rollins

Steve S.

Orton has been bent on revenge ever since he came back. Rollins has shown time and again that he can’t win a match purely one-on-one, and he’s better at running than fighting. His disagreements with J&J Security will likely play a part, and believe Rollins’ abuse of them will cause Noble and Mercury to abandon him at a crucial point. Orton, who is not one to pass up an opportunity to capitalize, will make Rollins pay for his cowardly behavior.

Everyone seems to think that this is the night when Rollins will attempt to cash in his briefcase against the winner of the Lesnar/Reigns match. I certainly don’t dispute the possibility, but win or lose, you can’t count Orton out of the picture.

Winner – Randy Orton

Mike P.

I honestly feel like this match has benefited the most out of all the matches as far as story time on TV goes. Since Lesnar isn’t a full time performer, they had to replace that time pumping up another match. Rollins vs Orton was the beneficiary. Granted, I hated the angle of letting Orton back in The Authority. Who didn’t see that it was all a trap other than the idiots in The Authority, ironically, that doesn’t include Jamie Nobel.

As far as the actual match, this should be the second best match outside of the ladder match.

Since Seth Rollins has the MITB, I doubt they give him a ‘Mania win to pair with that. So give me Orton for the win.

Winner – Randy Orton

Steven K.

It would be a mistake for Seth Rollins, after such a strong year, to lose tonight on the grandest stage of them all. Randy Orton should be today’s Stone Cold Steve Austin in popularity but he is not and he never will be. Seth Rollins really can, and should, be the future of the WWE. I know I want to see Seth Rollins beat Randy Orton decisively. I want Rollins to stand over Orton’s exhausted body and steal Randy’s taunt on the most important night of the industry. I want Seth Rollins to tell the world that he is the future and that men from Ortons era are toys from the past.

Winner – Seth Rollins

United States Champion Rusev vs. John Cena

United States Champion Rusev vs. John Cena

Steve S.

I won’t say too much about this one. I’ve been waiting for Rusev to lose while angrily watching him steamroll established talent for far too long. People who complain about Reigns and Cena having only five moves obviously don’t pay attention to Rusev when he’s in the ring. Rusev is simply not fun to watch. I’m looking forward to him finally losing, and since WrestleMania has become the place where winning streaks go to be broken, I’m sure I won’t be disappointed.

Winner – John Cena

Mike P.

It’s obvious that John Cena will win this. It’s sad that they build Rusev up as this monster, just to feed him to John Cena in front of the whole world. It’s not like I didn’t tell you that this was happening when I said this for my Fastlane predictions… “My gut says Rusev will get the win at Fast Lane and then lose the next two matches to Cena–first at WM, and second sometime after that.”  You should pay more attention to me.

Winner – John Cena

Steven K.

Rusev, like Seth Rollins, has had an amazing year. Rusev has quickly become a top star for the WWE and I believe he will decisively beat the Dr. Thuganomics (John Cena) on the grandest stage of them all.

Winner – Rusev

The Undertaker vs. Bray Wyatt

The Undertaker vs. Bray Wyatt

Steve S.

I’m finding myself in a constant state of irritation when listening to people say that “Undertaker needs to pass the torch,” and “the streak is broken, so he doesn’t need to win.” Bray Wyatt has been cutting the same promo since he debuted, and I haven’t enjoyed it once. If you want my personal opinion (and you must, because you’re reading it), Bray Wyatt doesn’t even belong in the same ring as the Undertaker. There is only one Undertaker. Those seeking a spiritual successor to the Undertaker in Bray Wyatt are destined to remain disappointed.

Winner – The Undertaker

Mike P.

This has been the worst booked match in my opinion. So lame. Granted, the Undertaker never showed up, but still, they could have done better than have Bray go toe-to-toe with nobody on his promos. Nobody cares about cryptic messages. We want the real deal. Either way, Taker ain’t losing back-to-back WrestleMainias. Honestly, I hope this is his last match.

Winner – The Undertaker

Steven K.

The Undertaker losing to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30, breaking the Undertaker’s undefeated streak at Wrestlemania was the greatest mistake the WWE has ever made with the Undertaker. Taker has provided WWE fans with decades of entertainment and he did not return to lose twice in a row at Mania. I know I believe Taker will beat Bray Wyatt here but I hope the WWE can find a way to pass the torch from Taker to Wyatt on this night.

Winner – The Undertaker

Sting vs. Triple H

Sting vs. Triple H

Steve S.

You’ve got to love a match like this. Sledgehammer vs. Baseball Bat. The Icon vs. The Game. In my mind I feel like it’s somewhat easy to call this match. Triple H, as a person holding authority in the company in real life, has nothing to gain or lose from beating Sting. The fans are undoubtedly looking forward to seeing a Scorpion Deathlock. Sting will shake the foundation of the WWE by dismantling one its most decorated figures.

Winner – Sting

Mike P.

I can see this going either way. You wouldn’t think that Sting would lose his first match in WWE, but Triple H is kind of an egomaniac and he lost in last year’s ‘Mania. Do you expect him to lose back to back and four out of five? Actually, I can see that. I can see that pretty clearly.

Winner – Sting

Steven K.

Triple H needs to do whats best for business here and lay down for The Icon. No one wants to see Sting lose in his WWE Debut match. This match will be fun to watch and the WWE is truly impressive with its ability to bring Sting in for yet another match.

Winner – Sting

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar                  vs. Roman Reigns

Steve S.

This is possibly the most polarizing match on the card. Roman Reigns went from one of the most celebrated characters in the company at this time last year to one of the most reviled at this year’s Royal Rumble. I guess there’s really no accounting for the mood swings of the WWE Universe. Anything can happen in WWE, and with Brock Lesnar deciding not to resign with UFC and stay at WWE, it draws a bit of drama away from the match, but also makes a winner that much harder to predict. Still, it’s public knowledge that Roman Reigns was hand-picked by Vince McMahon as the new “John Cena,” and it’s unlikely to change just because Lesnar stopped waffling.

Winner – Roman Reigns

Mike P.

As seen here on Geeks Under Grace, Brock Lesnar has re-signed with the WWE. What does that mean for this match? Absolutely nothing. The WWE built up Roman Reigns. Roman Reigns will win this title. Usaully there aren’t any swerves in main events at WrestleMainia, but I could see something going down involving Seth Rollins causing Brock Lesnar to lose this match. Which would result in Rollins, unsuccessfully, cashing in his Money In The Bank. That will make the fans happy…

Winner – Roman Reigns

Steven K.

Roman Reigns will leave WrestleMania 31 the WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Roman Reigns is clearly being molded and shaped to be the next big thing for the WWE. Reigns has a great look and I personally think he has a lot of charisma, but I cannot wrap my mind around the idea that this man is ready for the main event match at WrestleMania. I also cannot help but think of CM Punk in this situation. While I am no fan of Punk personally, the obvious blind favoritism on the part of WWE (or more particularly Vince McMahon) is difficult to ignore.

Winner – Roman Reigns

Surprised by the unanimous decision for Roman Reigns. I would think that Brock re-signing means he will get the win.

Seems we were all wrong! Seth Rollins with that surprise upset win was incredible! It restored my faith in the future of professional wrestling!
