WWE Survivor Series 2014 Predictions

Welcome to another edition of Geeks Under Grace Predicts. This month is WWE Survivor Series. We break down all the matches and give a nice variety of opinions on what we here at Geeks Under Grace think is likely to happen on the show. As usual, I am joined by Steve Schoen–the man who gave up precious time that could be spent on Dragon Age: Inquisition–as well as the ever-talented Michael Pyatt. Joining us again from the Geeks Under Grace community is Daniel Worley, whose predictions in our GROUP PAGE were too thorough to ignore.

This year we have a total of five matches announced with two of them being Traditional Survivor Series matches. For those of you unfamiliar with the Traditional Survivor Series match, it consists of two better-than-average teams (typically 4-6 members each) facing off in an elimination-style tag team match. Based on how the eliminations play out, the match can quickly become a 5-on-3 match or near the end be a 2-on-1. The match continues until all the members of one team have been eliminated.

With that explained, let’s get on to the matches.

Pre-show – Fandango vs. ???

Thomas

I don’t watch the pre-show and I didn’t even know Fandango had a match until writing this article. I think I will save my real predictions for the main show. I’ll flip a coin to decide…. It came up “tails.” I’ll go with Not-Fandango.

Winner – ???

Steve

I find it unlikely that Fandango will job to an opponent that as yet does not exist. This match was likely set up to try and give him a renewed push.

Winner – Fandango

Daniel

Rumors say this is the return of Bad News Barrett. I hope so, since Barrett was on a nice year before he hurt his shoulder a few months back. If this is Barrett, then Barrett obviously wins. If not Barrett, then do we even care who wins?

Winner – Bad News Barrett

SS Tag

Gold & Stardust (C) vs. Los Matadores vs. The Usos vs. The Miz & Damien Mizdow – Fatal 4-Way Tag Team Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship

Thomas

It hasn’t been announced that this is an elimination match, so it will be one fall to a finish here. That typically does not bode well for the champions due to them not even having to be pinned in order to lose the titles. For instance, if one of The Usos pins The Miz, Gold & Stardust lose and The Usos become your new Tag Team Champions.

With this being a 4-front war (technically 6 because… math), I could see this playing out many different ways. First I will eliminate the obvious: Los Matadores will not win. Gold & Stardust and The Usos have been going at it for quite some time now, so it wouldn’t surprise me if either of those teams won.

However, I’m going to go with The Miz & Damien Mizdow because that would actually have me interested in the Tag Team Championships again. Mizdow has the audience behind him in a big way and The Miz playing off his jealousy has been great. The two of them could have some neat interactions as Tag Champs and it could lead into a possible feud between them.

Winners and NEW WWE Tag Team Champions – The Miz & Damien Mizdow

Steve

While I cannot entertain the thought that the reign of the Brothers Cosmic is anywhere close to being over, this match has the potential to set off new tag team feuds, and may even help springboard Damien Sandow to greater heights of popularity.

Winners and STILL WWE Tag Team Champions – Goldust and Stardust

Mike

I really hope this doesn’t happen… I REALLY REALLY hope this doesn’t happen, but I think Miz & Damien Mizdow will win this match. They’ve been getting a ton of face time lately. It just seems like Gold & Star dust have been fading as of late. It doesn’t make any sense to me because they have been doing so well since Cody became Stardust. I can guarantee you Los Matadores or The Usos won’t take home the titles.

Winners and NEW WWE Tag Team Champions – The Miz & Damien Mizdow

Daniel

In this match, (which they basically just did on Raw this week sans Title Shot), we have really the only four tag teams in the WWE right now. But luckily most of these teams are capable of performing good matches. The Raw match was good so there is no reason why this one won’t be as well. I really want the Dust Brothers to win but Mizdow is so over, way more over than Miz, that I would not be surprised if they went that route. All are capable of winning here expect maybe Los Maradores.

Winners – Too Close to Call

SS Diva

Natalya, Naomi, Alicia Fox, & Emma vs. Paige, Summer Rae, Layla, & Cameron – Divas Tradition Survivor Series Match

Thomas

My first thought is “Why?”. Then after thinking about it, I don’t think that this will be entirely a disastrous match. Most of the women in this match can at least wrestle to some degree. With little to no build, I have no intrigue into who will win this match or why. I just know that the faces (since when was Alicia Fox a face?) will win.

Winners – Natalya, Naomi, Alicia Fox, & Emma

Steve

I’m perplexed by the mixing of heels and faces for these teams. This match was born out of Paige’s betrayal of Alicia, starting a new feud after hers with AJ ended. Since Alicia Fox has shown herself to be quite unstable in the past, I believe Paige’s team will come out on top.

Winners – Paige, Summer Rae, Layla, & Cameron

Mike

**grabs coin** **flips coin**. It’s tails.

Winners – Paige, Summer Rae, Layla, & Cameron

Daniel

We have Team Alicia Fox with Emma, Natalya and Naomi vs. Team Paige alongside Summer Rae, Layla and Cameron. I like this match just because the talented ladies are divided up between the groups. In one side we have Alicia Fox, Emma, and Natalya. All are fine workers and if pure talent always dictated the winners then this team would win. The other side we have Paige and Layla. Paige is over right now but they haven’t been doing much televised story with her and Alicia to real hype this rivalry. I think it’ll be a decent if not good match. I see Team Paige taking it home.

Winners – Paige, Summer Rae, Layla, & Cameron

SS Ambrose Wyatt

Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt – Singles Match

Thomas

Am I the only who feels like we will see this match again in a few years for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship? These guys are both destined to main event. They’ve taken a randomly thrown together feud and made it somewhat interesting. Bray Wyatt is getting some of his mystique back that he had lost over the past few months. It does feel like Dean Ambrose got demoted after main-eventing the last PPV, but he will make the most of it.

This could possibly be match of the night. Both of these men have shown their abilities to put on a good fight and captivate the audience. It is tough to say who will grab the victory in the end. Wyatt doesn’t have his cronies anymore (they are actually overshadowing him in the main event later in the night), so a dirty finish is less likely. Plus, a loss has never hurt Wyatt in the past. Unless Ambrose gets himself disqualified, I see him pulling out the win here.

Winner – Dean Ambrose

Steve

After an unsatisfying end to his Hell in a Cell match against Seth Rollins, and indeed, a feud that did more for Seth Rollins than anyone else, Dean Ambrose needs a win against Bray Wyatt to cement his status as a new top face. Wyatt has been defeated before, and his feud with Ambrose was birthed out of a random attack (not without precedence) as opposed to some deep storyline event. With his former cronies locking horns in the Survivor Series match, it’s unlikely Wyatt will be receiving outside help. Dean Ambrose should have this one in the bag, as he is probably the least likely out of anyone on the WWE roster to fall prey to Wyatt’s mind games.

Winner – Dean Ambrose

Mike

For some reason, this hasn’t packed the punch that I thought it would. I think we need this feud to go a couple of rounds so it can reach its full potential. It’s really unclear why Wyatt attacked Ambrose. They really haven’t done a good job of explaining it. Maybe it was done purposely, Bray Wyatt is just a weird person. You would think that having Ambrose lose at the last PPV that he would get the W, but I think Wyatt takes round 1.

Winner – Bray Wyatt

Daniel

This match is the one in least excited to see who wins. Don’t get me wrong, I love both guys and it will be a good if not great match if they get enough time. A solid 15-20 minutes would be enough for workers of this caliber. But both of these guys are coming off rivalries that didn’t exactly go in their favor. Wyatt has came back with a purpose since “setting Luke and Eric free” and for the first time in awhile we get a sense of why Bray is attacking someone. Dean coming off the great story involving Rollins is in need of a win or it will just seem like he’s a pushover. But Wyatt also needs a win after some lackluster feuds this year. I favor Wyatt because he is such a fresh character and proves that when a wrestler is directly responsible for the forming of their own character then it can work. Plus I feel like it will extend the feud.

Winner – Bray Wyatt

SS Diva Title

AJ Lee (C) vs. Nikki Bella – Singles Match for the WWE Divas Championship

Thomas

It is hard for me to focus on this match itself because I already see the big picture. Nikki will win the title from AJ and go on to face a vengeful Brie. While Brie will be unsuccessful at TLC in December, I see her picking up the eventual win from her sister at Royal Rumble in January.

Rumors are abound that AJ may want to leave WWE. True or not, rumors can hurt a wrestler’s career. I just don’t see AJ walking away with the title this time.

Winner and NEW WWE Divas Champion – Nikki Bella

Steve

This match is more a by-product of Nikki’s fringe affiliation with The Authority than any legitimate claim to the title. After being humiliated on TV for the past month, Brie will undoubtedly seek retribution against her sister that will manifest as interference to cost her the match. For her part, AJ has shown herself to be a worthy and dangerous competitor. AJ’s ability to win is without question, Brie’s desire for vengeance notwithstanding.

Winner and STILL WWE Divas Champion – AJ Lee

Mike

I don’t see how AJ walks out with the title after what she did on Monday Night. It was hilarious, but could be costly. I can see Brie looking for some payback. Even if it does mean helping her sister.

Winner AND NEW WWE Divas Champion – Nikki Bella

Daniel

Nikki has shown promise as an improved grappler the past three months. She has proven adequate as an aggressive heel for both her sister and by roundabout, AJ Lee. Her wrestling skills have improved drastically. AJ Lee will go down as one of the best woman’s wrestlers in history so this match might be ok. I think Nikki is going to win, or maybe Brie causes her to lose. But it seems more likely that Nikki wins, since all signs point to that outcome.

Winner AND NEW WWE Divas Champion – Nikki Bella

SS Cena Authority

Team Cena vs. Team Authority – Traditional Survivor Series Match. If Team Cena wins, The Authority (Triple H and Stephanie McMahon) lose their power. If Team Authority wins, every member of Team Cena is fired.

Thomas

This is clearly the biggest built match of the PPV. Wanting to prove that “anything can happen”, Vince McMahon came out a few weeks ago on Raw and placed the first stipulation on this match. The Authority later added the second stipulation only a few days ago under cover of darkness (read: Smackdown).

Team Cena cannot seem to catch a break. Every week at least one member of the team has gotten a beatdown. One thing I have noticed, where is Cena when his buddies are getting double- or triple-teamed? It is almost as if he wants his team to be weak going into this. Cena, you jerk!

Plot holes aside, based on the stipulations there is only one logical outcome. Team Cena must win because Cena has another match coming up with Brock Lesnar. Please WWE, throw us a curveball and have it go the other way instead. I just don’t see it happening any other way, though.

Winners – Team Cena (Bye Bye Authority)

Steve

We’ve seen time and again that we rarely get what we want out of these pay-per-views. However, Triple H and Stephanie have been on TV for some time, and I think we could all stand to see a different “villain” in the WWE continuity. So, I believe Team Cena will win the day. Even if a prolonged departure from on-screen participation is not in the cards, as heels they can find some other way to insinuate themselves into WWE politics, especially since Stephanie’s ownership of the company is not in jeopardy.

Winners – Team Cena

Mike

This has probably been one of the better build ups for a main event PPV in a minute. Loved the ending to RAW on Monday Night. Because of social media, I knew what happened before I saw it, nonetheless, it was still nice to see the surprise of Eric Rowan joining Team Cena. Now as far as the match goes, I can see Ryback doing something to cause Team Cena the win. Now I don’t know if it will be blatant or not, but I can see him doing something negative. I want the authority to lose, mainly because I am so over GM roles in wrestling.

Winners – Team Cena

Daniel

Obviously we all know that if anything rings true in professional wrestling, it’s that no one stays fired for long. There has been rumors circulating for awhile that a feud between Vince and HHH has been in the world for this Wrestlemania. This could set that up with Team Authority winning and firing Team Cena. Then the following Raw, Vince reinstates them much to Hunter’s chagrin. I’m just going to go out on a limb and say that Team Cena wins.

Winners – Team Cena

It appears that our staff here feel that Survivor Series will be filled with plenty of coin flips, cronies, and unusually-perturbed felines.
